Monday 11th to Sunday 17th December 2017

Monday I got up before 7am to go for a power walk but found it was raining. That wasn’t forecast. We shopped and worked and for dinner cooked a Mediterranean vegetable soup.

Tuesday I went to Mosta to visit my car mechanic. My offside wing mirror has been bashed and so is going to need replacing. After that I went to the Doctor. I have sinusitis so it’s antibiotics for a week and antihistamines for a month. Oh joy. I drowned my sorrows with a good cappuccino at Clara May. I spent much of the afternoon doing Spanish homework. For dinner we had salmon, mine with salad, Sam’s with salad and broccoli.

Wednesday we couldn’t really get out because of work and our Spanish lesson. I made a Puy lentil chilli but in the event was feeling a bit queasy (thanks antibiotics) so just had some corn fritters instead. Sam had the chilli with salmon and broccoli.

Thursday saw two big developments. First, we sold our BBQ, so that’s crossed off our moving to Spain list. Second, we finished our Christmas cake! Sam is going to have to make another, as usual. For dinner we had my vegan Puy lentil chilli with chips. I have to say it is not only as good, but better than the meat version (chilli con carne) and I defy any meat eater not to love it!

Friday we went to Sliema and visited noisy Giorgio’s. Just a cappuccino for me but Sam had a cappuccino with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast. Very decadent. We wandered around, looked in a few shops, ending up in The Point. On the way home we stopped off at Greens. Friday night is pizza night and I stuck to that tradition. Sam went off piste though and had baked chicken thighs with spinach.

Saturday we went into Valletta with Chris and Tina. More super yachts have appeared in the harbour there and the views across the water to Senglia and Birgu are simply amazing. We went for drinks at a bar on Republic Street, then went on to Trabuxu for dinner. The food was a bit below par on this occasion (everything far too salty) but we still had a fun evening.

Sunday was a bit windy but I still got a good walk in, stopping at Clara May for a cappuccino (what else?). For dinner I made a courgette biryani but Sam didn’t fancy it so she had a pizza!
