Monday 30th October to Sunday 5th November 2017
Monday I picked up 84 litres of “free” water. For dinner we had left over chilli con carne with rice and tortilla chips.
Tuesday we shopped, I walked, we worked and for dinner I cooked a chicken casserole.
Wednesday we were woken by a violent thunderstorm. That is to say, I was; somehow Sam slept through it! Rainy weather kept us in for the whole day. For dinner we had left over chicken casserole.
Thursday while Sam was at her art class I pulled on my hiking boots and walked along the headland and cliffs between Golden Bay and Mgarr. It was quite muddy under foot for a change; I think the ground had been churned up by horses and scramble bikes. The scenery in that area is outstanding though, with blue sea, a mix of sandy and boulder-strewn shoreline, brown cliffs and green fields.
For dinner we had goats cheese and vegetable pizzas.
Friday I went to Sliema and bought some ridiculously cheap shirts in Debenhams sale then had brunch in French Affaire; a cheese and ham toasty and a cappuccino. We had planned to go out for dinner but Sam felt a bit under the weather so we stayed in instead and had fish fingers (Findus, which were awful) and curly fries.
Saturday I did a long walk round about the area. For dinner I made a paella even though we couldn’t find bomba rice in Malta and had to use vialone nano instead. It worked quite well but not perfectly. The main thing with paella though is not so much the variety of rice used so much as the cooking technique; no stirring! So the paella was very good and I am confident that once we do have the right rice, it will be excellent.
Sunday we did a long stroll all around the area, stopping at two different cafes for cappuccini. We were out for three hours in all; the weather is perfect for that now. For dinner we had roasted vegetables with feta.
