Monday 21st to Sunday 27th August 2017
Monday we did a quick shop at Scotts; overpriced but convenient as long as you don’t need decent fruit and veg. Apart from work, we spent time planning our upcoming holiday to Spain. For dinner we had a roasted chicken with mixed salad.
Tuesday seemed to disappear in a pile of work and holiday planning. The big news though, is that we had a brief rain shower! Hopefully that will knock some of the humidity out of the air. For dinner I made a vegetable soup.
Wednesday Tina called around for a cup of peppermint tea. It’s always nice to see her. She is funny. She always feels she has to bring some sort of gift with her. Today it was a portion of bolognaise sauce! Apart from her visit we spent the day working. For dinner we had vegetable and goat cheese pizzas.
Thursday I went to Sliema for a short walk and to do some window shopping. For dinner we had spaghettini bolognaise using the sauce Tina had bought us.
Friday I went to Greens supermarket which was dead quiet for some reason. In the evening Chris and Tina called around. We had a couple of drinks and watched the floats depart. There is an annual parade of floats that sets off from St Paul’s Bay – on the promenade directly below us – and slowly wends its way to Marscascala ; apparently it takes them two days! We went downstairs to Portobello Pizzeria and had excellent pizzas. Tina and I walked into town to buy ice cream – chocolate, lemon, stratiachella and butterscotch– and we walked home via the promenade to get a close up look at the floats. They are huge, each the size of a small bungalow. One was a baby in a bath, another a Rasta smoking a splif and another an overly endowed naked lady. It is all very strange. We got home and the four of us devoured the ice cream as if it was our last meal.
Saturday we lazed as it was way too hot to venture out. I made a pork vindaloo for dinner. After dinner I went for a short walk, cringing as I walked past the St Paul’s Bay Hotel and its Elvis tribute act’s overly loud rendition of Blue Suede Shoes.
Sunday we walked down to the square and sat in Miracles for ages sipping cappuccini and drinking water. We chose a table with a fan above it so we felt quite comfortable! For dinner we had left over pork vindaloo.
