Monday 15th to Sunday 21st May 2017

Monday I bought a new chopping board! Our last one has split in half, a drawback of bamboo boards. For dinner we had roasted chicken with sweet potatoes.

Tuesday I got a haircut from Mr Philosophy. As usual he hardly drew a breath. His great rant today was about how women never stop talking. I think the irony was lost on him. We worked hard ahead of Sam’s trip tomorrow. I made minestrone soup for dinner.

Wednesday I dropped Sam off at the airport for her trip to the UK, then drove on to Pretty Bay for a walk and a cappuccino. I went to Malet for dinner. The Caesar salad was good but the ribs were tough as old boots. I told the waiter/Manager and he said that’s how everyone likes them! When I got the bill I said I was surprised that he was charging for the ribs so he only charged for half of them as I had tried to eat some of them! He said he didn’t want people coming to his restaurant if they were going to complain. There were only two other diners in the restaurant and I often walk past it in the evenings and it is invariably deserted, so you would think he would be trying to keep customers, not put them off.

Thursday I stayed in and did jobs including making a Puy lentil chilli which I used as the base for a lasagne. It was scrumptious!

Friday I went to Sliema, had breakfast at French Affaire (sent a cold cappuccino back) and shopped at Debenhams. I had a walk along the Strand marvelling, as always, at the views across the water to Valletta. For dinner I had left over lasagne.

Saturday I went for a walk all around town and along the promenade, stopping at Miracles for a cappuccino along the way. Good progress is being made in resurfacing the main seafront road; it’s part of the St Paul’s Bay, Bugibba and Qawra face lift following on from the refurbishments of the large Seashells Resort, Qawra Palace Hotel and Dolman Hotel. In the evening I went to O’Reilly’s for a couple of beers then on to HOS for a very good meal. I had papadums, sliced potatoes bound in spiced chickpea flour and fried, and a biryani. Yum, yum, yum!

Sunday I went for a walk about town, stopping for a cappuccino at the donut factory. I made cauliflower cheese for dinner.
