Saturday 1st to Sunday 9th April 2017
Saturday we went for brunch at Ta Puzzu in Mellieha. I think they must have a new chef because it used to be really good but now it is fairly rubbish. Chris and Tina came around for dinner. We had crisps and palmiers to start, then beef and prune tagine with courgettes and rice and for dessert vanilla ice cream, strawberries and caramelised olives. It was all delicious if I do say so myself!
Sunday we had a very lazy day – recuperating! For dinner we had left overs.
Monday we mostly worked as well as doing our weekly supermarket shop. For dinner Sam had a baked sea bream with spinach and I had a pizza.
Tuesday I got a haircut, went to PAMA, and cooked a vegetable curry in our slow cooker. It was fantastic! Who needs meat when vegetables taste this good? I’ll put the recipe on my food blog.
Wednesday we went to Pretty Bay for a stroll along the promenades and around the marina, stopping for cappuccini along the way. For dinner we had left over vegetable curry.
Thursday I did another big walk in our perfect weather. For dinner I made a lamb shank, fennel and vegetable soup which was delicious. I will put the recipe on my food blog soon.
Friday I got our car serviced and took it for its biannual VRT. Sam lost a crown so we had to spend the afternoon at the dentist. In the evening we went to the George for a drink then on to Lovage to dinner. It was very good and we have decided that at Lovage you just need to be careful to choose things you know they can do well. Avoid meats other than lamb and most fish. Our amuse bouche was a mushroom soup. Sam had asparagus risotto followed by spaghetti with mussels, calamari and prawns. I had lobster ravioli in a prawn bisque, lamb fillet with crushed peas and date cakes with stratchiatella ice cream and honey.
Saturday we went for a walk above Golden Bay and strolled around the Peace Garden. It’s an olive grove edged with spring flowers and there are plaques besides the paths commemorating people who have worked for peace. We sat on the terrace of The Apple’s Eye for ages, sipping cappuccini and watching people paddle boarding, pedalloing, kayaking, boating and swimming. The season really is starting to get under way. For dinner we had left over lamb and vegetable soup.
Sunday we had a thoroughly lazy day. We had planned to have roast chicken for dinner but when we unpacked it, it was rotten. Thanks Scotts! Instead Sam defrosted a small portion of chilli which she had with broccoli and I had a pizza.
