Monday 6th to Sunday 12th February 2017

Monday we went to Sliema so I could have my “it’s actually quite a deep cavity” filling. Actually it wasn’t a bad experience; we have a great deal of faith in our dentist. I have to go back again next week for a follow up. On the drive to Sliema we passed quite a big RTA. A bus had driven very hard and fast into the back of another bus at a bus stop at Cashaq. The damage was severe and we only hope the injuries weren’t. While I was immersed in dental heaven - such joys - Sam went shopping. On the drive home we saw the smashed up bus being towed away. For dinner we had a freshly made vegetable soup which was great as always.

Tuesday was wet and windy! I still got out though. For dinner we had chicken. Sam had hers plain; I did mine with a home-made piri piri sauce.

Wednesday we drove to Swieqi to visit a newly opened supermarket there. It looks like a great store and we will certainly be visiting again. Just up the road from it is an Italian deli with masses of fine cheeses and charcuterie; fabulous products with prices to match. For dinner we had left over chicken with rice pilaf.

Thursday Sam went to art and then met Tina for lunch. I hiked around town, stopping for a cappuccino (of course) and an ice cream. I really must kick these bad habits. For dinner I had a pizza; after her lunch Sam wasn’t hungry, so she just had some soup.

Friday was gorgeous. I spent the morning cooking ahead of our dinner party tomorrow. In the afternoon I hiked over to Xemxija and back. The views across the sea were amazing, the horizon spiked with a row of huge container ships. There were a lot of people out and about; it was another public holiday, the Feast of St Paul’s Shipwreck. The restaurants were doing a roaring lunchtime trade. For dinner Sam cooked sweet potato wedges, spicy potato wedges, butternut squash and spinach and feta pastries.

Saturday we went for a walk around Mellieha/Ghardia Beach, stopping at Mexi Co for okay cappuccini along the way. We had Steve and Ashley around for dinner; they bought a strawberry Pavlova with them for dessert. For our mains I made vegan and vegetarian Indian food; courgette curry, pineapple curry, spiced lentils and sweet yellow rice. Fabulous!

Sunday brought another gorgeous day so it was on with the shorts, on with the t-shirt, on with the sneakers and off about town! For dinner we had left over Indian food.
