Xlendi in Gozo
Monday 25th Saturday 30th April 2016
Monday was really busy so no time for a walk. In the evening I got the car serviced, so I had a late dinner when I got home of left over lasagne. By that time Sam had eaten; beef osso buco! She sure is into her meat.
Tuesday I got a haircut and more strange philosophy from Drew and stocked up on fruit & veg. I slow cooked Harrira to freeze ahead of Linda and Mick’s visit, so the flat smelled wonderful again. Yesterday we had a force 7 blowing in from the North West. It kicked the sea up and when we got up this morning we saw that a very nice day boat with an inboard engine that is moored in the bay just below us had been capsized. I did a great power walk to Xemxija Café for a cappuccino and an even faster walk home again. For dinner I finally finished off my Puy lentil lasagne! Sam had a (chewy) rib eye steak.
Wednesday we went to check out a new health centre that has an indoor pool in Naxxar. It looks like Sam will be able to sign up for some aqua exercise classes there. We went on to Pama (groan) only because it has a quite large health food section to get some lactose-free products. I did a great power walk in the afternoon; admittedly it was far too hot but I do love the heat. It makes me feel alive and outward looking whereas the cold makes me feel isolated and introverted. In the evening Sam had a yoga teacher come to the flat and she seemed to enjoy it. (I was banned from the room, not allowed to watch, even though I was desperate to video it for YouTube.) For dinner Sam had sushi followed by left over osso buco. I had a chicken, sweetcorn and BBQ sauce pizza, perhaps not the healthiest meal in the world but boy, it sure tasted good.
Thursday we went to Sliema and had excellent cappuccinos at French Affaire. I have to say, as good as their cappuccinos are, it is a soulless place but it is near the car park and at the Point, so the location wins out. Sam went to a meeting nearby and I went shopping in Debenham’s sale, M&S and BHS. Actually, M&S was just for wine which is quite cheap but everything else that M&S sells is seriously over-priced so not somewhere to shop generally. For dinner we had fish from Azzopardi’s; pan fried sea bream for Sam and salmon for me. I seasoned the salmon with smoked salt and black pepper, pan fried it and finished it off with a bit of honey. We both loved our fish but we both had food poisoning afterwards!
Friday we continued unwell through the morning and early afternoon. Due to that we had to cancel our planned dinner with Ian at Trabuxu which was a great shame as we haven’t seen him or been to Trabuxu in ages. We managed to nip to the butcher’s mid-afternoon though, and had roast chicken for dinner.
Saturday I went shopping for fruit in the morning but, apart from that, we were pretty busy with jobs cooking and cleaning ahead of Linda and Mick’s visit. By the evening we had run out of steam so had pepperoni pizzas and beer for dinner.
