This is what the cappuccinos look like in Georgio's!

Monday 18th to Sunday 24th January 2016

Monday was still very windy and the coldest day of the winter so far at 16°, although the sun still shone. We did our weekly big supermarket shop. After lunch I went for a walk but with the chill wind my heart wasn’t in it. For dinner I made a beef casserole packed full of celery and carrots.

Tuesday we worked apart from a walk around lunchtime. The funny news is that in December Sam entered a couple of photos into the British Residents Association annual photo competition as a bit of a joke. She has won first and third places! A cheque for €40 is winging its way to her. The not-so-funny news is that there was another car bomb in Malta today, the second in a week. It seems they were about personal grievances though, so there isn’t much general risk. For dinner we had left over beef casserole.

Wednesday we went shopping in Sliema for things Sam needs for her upcoming trip to Dusseldorf. We had excellent cappuccinos in Giorgio’s. They often serve them with the surface dusted in chocolate in the pattern of a teddy bear’s head. But now their decorations are getting ridiculous with smiley faces and wafer ears and whatnot. It’s great! In the afternoon Sam went to meet up with a local boat dealer to talk shop. For dinner I made fridge soup.

Thursday Sam felt a bit “heady” so I tramped around all of the pharmacies I know in the area – five in all – looking for Day Nurse which I did find in the end. As well as that I did a one hour power walk in the afternoon sun (32° today). For dinner we went to a newly opened restaurant in St Paul’s Bay which looks chic. Unfortunately the food was pretty dire. I have reviewed it on my food blog.

Friday I did another long power walk to Xemxija and back. The air temperature is about 19°, in the sun it’s about 30° and there is no humidity so it is perfect weather for walking and hiking. I had a good Italian lesson. Pizza for dinner as usual on Fridays.

Saturday I did some shopping then went to Mambo’s at Ramira Bay for a cappuccino. This is my favourite time of year at Ramira Bay. The sea is always colourful and the views are spectacular and on a January morning I pretty much have them all to myself. For dinner I roasted a Maltese chicken from Trollees, not very good. The veggies were great, though!

Sunday we had to leave the flat for the airport at 4.30am! Sam is off to work at the Dusseldorf boat show for a few days. In the morning I cooked a baked pasta dish with an arabiata sauce for my dinner but it smelt so good I ended up eating it for my lunch! So for dinner I made a courgette curry which was great too.
