Monday 23rd to Monday 30th November 2015

Monday I did a one hour power walk in the late afternoon for a change. The temperature was perfect for that but it was a bit of an obstacle course dodging the dawdling tourists! For dinner we had blackened chicken with sweet potatoes – yum, yum!

Tuesday we went to the farmers’ market only it wasn’t on when we got there! We stopped instead at a couple of fruit and veg vans near the National Stadium and managed to get what we wanted. Navel oranges have just arrived and they are fantastic! On the way back we visited the deli in Mosta and bought some foodie treats for Christmas. We’ll see if they last out till then. I did another good power walk in the afternoon. It may be my last for a few days as the weather forecast is for three or four days of gales from tomorrow. For dinner we had left over chicken with roasted carrots and potatoes.

Wednesday a big storm came through so we stayed indoors listening to the howling wind and watching the few remaining boats at anchor being thrown about on the boiling sea. One of the boats disappeared sometime in the early afternoon, presumably sunk. We may be able to see it once the water calms down and clears again. We did some work, watched a couple of movies and ate flatbreads for dinner.

Thursday was still stormy so apart from a dash to the supermarket we stayed in all day. I made a fresh piri piri sauce which I marinated a whole chicken in. I basted it with melted butter and roasted it and it was fantastic. We had it with lots of roasted vegetables.

Friday we worked, shopped and cooked. For dinner we had left over piri piri chicken with piri piri rice. We sure like piri piri!

Saturday I went walkabout, but I was still dogging showers with the weather front that is struggling to move through. Robin and Leslie came around for dinner. We had pate on toast, smoked salmon with cream cheese on bread, braised beef with carrots and roasted potatoes, and homemade mince pies with stratiacella ice cream. It was all fantastic!

Sunday we had a fairly lazy day, chilling and watching movies; still the weather front is lingering. For dinner we had left over casserole.

Monday we went to PAMA, a huge new supermarket that has opened in Mosta, about 10 minutes away. Apart from the main supermarket itself, there are many shops-within-shops there including a large butcher, fishmonger, deli, fresh pasta store, bookstore, optician, jewellery store, Hamley’s toy store and an electrical retailer. There is also a café and an excellent sushi take away. Next door, a drive through KFC is about to open. On the way home we stopped at the Atrium and Homemate to buy some Christmas decorations and a few bits and pieces for the kitchen. One of the benefits about moving to live in a more densely populated place is the vast improvement in shopping choices!

For dinner we had fresh ravioli stuffed with ricotta, pears and gorgonzola, which we had bought in PAMA. Great quality pasta, but we couldn’t really taste the gorgonzola!
