The view from our terrace on a cloudy day

Monday 26th to Saturday 31st October 2015

Monday we worked, shopped and cooked. I made a gallon of chilli con carne for the freezer, planning ahead for Peter and Linda’s visit. They are due to arrive tomorrow. For dinner we had roasted chicken and chips.

Tuesday Sam met a friend for lunch at a sushi restaurant in Paceville. The streets were still being cleaned up and hosed down from the night before. It’s a real party town stuffed full of bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Bar signs advertise a bottle of vodka with mixers for €30 (£21). Happy hour, when all drinks are half price, runs from 1pm to 6pm! That’s five hours by my book. I drove on to Sliema and did some clothes shopping. I managed to find a new pair of Ryder flip flops in my size. That’s no mean feat at this time of year when the shops are full of their winter stocks. For dinner we had left over lamb casserole.

Wednesday I took Peter and Linda on a whirlwind tour of the area. We stopped for coffees at Armier bay which were very nice. We had to shelter from pouring rain though. We came back to the flat for a buffet lunch that Sam had prepared, then sat on the terrace shooting the breeze. All day long it was a game of dodge the showers, so prolonged sunbathing was a challenge. In the evening we went to Lovage which we all enjoyed as usual.

Thursday we went to Valetta, took in the sights and went to the 5D cinema. For lunch we had toasties and cappuccinos at Charles Gretch which were very nice. For dinner we went to Al Sultan for our usual choice of meze and it was all delicious as always. We went on to Sotto Zero for ice cream.

Friday we went to Mdina sightseeing. We had an early lunch at the palace then drove on to Dingli Cliffs to take in the views. Peter & Linda came around for dinner; chilli con carne which was brill as always.

Saturday we had a lazy day reading, studying and watching TV. We met Peter and Linda for dinner in Valetta, taking them to Trabuxu which was excellent as always and great fun to boot. Pasta with rabbit livers, goats cheese salad, chicken liver parfait, lampuki, confit of duck, rib eye steak, apple crumble and chocolate and hazelnut tart. Yum!
